Team newsMiller, Stevens and Spridgeon headline new arrivals
The Cardiff Canucks have made a statement of intent for the 2026-27 season with three major signings that bring significant NIHL1 experience to the roster.
Ross Miller - Goaltender
The Canucks pulled off a major coup by signing Welsh netminder Ross Miller, regarded as one of the country's top goalies. Miller brings a wealth of experience from NIHL2, NIHL1, NIHL and EIHL, making him a force to be reckoned with in the Canucks' crease. Having developed through the junior system in Cardiff, Ross is a local product with strong ties to the club and existing familiarity with many Cardiff players.
"We are delighted to welcome Ross Miller to the team," said Coach Hendrikx. "He is a player we have been very interested in for some time and we are so pleased to secure this signing. His arrival represents a significant addition to our roster. Having developed through the junior system in Cardiff, Ross is a local product with strong ties to the club and existing familiarity with many of the Cardiff Canucks players. Widely regarded as one of the top goaltenders in the country, Ross brings a wealth of talent and experience. His presence will provide stability within the squad while also serving as a valuable resource and mentor for our younger goaltenders. We are particularly pleased to bring him back home, where he will have the opportunity to perform in front of his hometown supporters."
Ross himself is excited about the homecoming: "After having a good few conversations with Trevor, it was clear to me that after 10 years on the road, it was time to come home. I'm super excited at the challenge in front of me and I'm ready to give it my all to help the development of the club going forward and push the team onwards and upwards! Can't wait to come home and see you all in the rink come September!"
Miller will wear #41 for the Canucks.
Lewis Stevens - Forward
Cardiff added more local talent to the roster with the signing of Lewis Stevens, a well-known Cardiff through and through player from Juniors all the way to the Senior ranks. Most recently holding captaincy at Cardiff Fire in NIHL1, Stevens brings leadership, experience and a renewed hunger to win huge games.
"I've known Lew for several years, so I was really pleased when he got in touch about next season," said Hendrikx. "The opportunity to bring in a player of his quality is always something you have to seriously consider. On top of that, he's a great character in the room, and I'm confident he'll fit in well with our existing core group."
Stevens is looking forward to the challenge: "I spoke to Trevor about the team he's building and his ambitions for the year and it really was something to get excited for. I'm looking forward to getting going with the boys and putting on that Canucks jersey in front of all the fans."
Ian Spridgeon - Defenseman
The Canucks bolstered their blue line with the addition of Ian Spridgeon, bringing a wealth of NIHL1 and NIHL2 experience from his time in Cardiff and most recently Bristol.
"Ian was a player who stood out to me last season when we played against him," noted Hendrikx. "He skates well and plays a strong, reliable game. With experience at higher levels, he brings added stability and composure to our defensive group and we're excited to have him."
Spridgeon is eager to join the Canucks setup: "I was really excited when Trevor reached out and outlined the plans for the season, it made me even more keen to get involved. I am looking forward to being part of the Canucks setup, catching up with old friends and experiencing the incredible fan base that comes along with it. See you all soon!"
Building for Success
The addition of Miller and Stevens, both with extensive NIHL1 experience, alongside the experienced Spridgeon, represents a significant boost to the Canucks' roster as the club aims for a higher finish in the table this season. With a strong mix of local talent and proven quality at higher levels, Cardiff are building a squad capable of competing at the top end of NIHL2 South.
