The Cardiff Canucks fell 6-5 in overtime to the Oxford Rising Stars on Saturday, twice erasing two-goal deficits to force extra time despite playing severely shorthanded. With just three forward lines and five defensemen available due to suspensions and injuries, Cardiff earned a single point on the road.

Cardiff had defeated Oxford 7-5 at home earlier in the season, but this trip to Oxford proved a different challenge entirely given the depleted roster.

The opening period saw both teams trade goals, heading to the first intermission tied at 1-1. The second period saw Oxford take control, building a 5-3 advantage heading into the final frame. The Canucks found themselves facing their second two-goal deficit of the night after trailing 3-1 earlier in the contest.

The third period saw Cardiff mount their comeback. A flashpoint came when Alex Williams dropped the gloves, delivering a convincing win in the bout. The Canucks clawed their way back to level terms at 5-5, forcing overtime.

The extra period brought a quick end as Oxford found the winner to seal a 6-5 victory.

Zak Shanahan led Cardiff's offense with three goals and an assist, earning Man of the Match honors for his four-point night.

Netminder Olly Thompson earned the Canucks' Cowboy Hat award for his performance in net, making crucial saves throughout the game to keep Cardiff in the contest despite the challenging circumstances.

The single point keeps Cardiff in the playoff hunt as they continue to navigate injuries and suspensions heading into the final stretch of the campaign.
